It comes after the 39-year-old former Wigan Warriors striker was charged earlier this month with controlling and compulsive behaviour, as well as two driving offences.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed, at noon on Saturday, that Hook had been remanded in custody.
He is scheduled to face the new charges in court at a later date.
The force’s Wigan Police team said: “Gareth Hook (05/09/1983), of Wigan, charged with multiple offences, including rape, assault, and controlling or coercive behaviour, among others.
He has been detained pending investigation and will appear in court at a later date.
Among the previous charges against him, Hawk, who was the driver of a vehicle involved in a road accident, allegedly failed to report this incident.
He is also charged that, as a driver of a vehicle, he did not stop after a road accident.
These two charges relate to a reported accident involving an Audi A6 on Gathurst Road in Orrell on November 11 last year.
Hook appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court inebruary, where he pleaded not guilty to both driving charges.
He has not pleaded a charge of controlling and coercive behaviour, and is next due to appear at Crown Court in Manchester Crown Square later this month.
Capped for his country on nine occasions, Hawke also played for Wigan, Widnes, Salford, Leigh,eatherstone and Barrow before retiring from the sport in 2019.
