Embarrassing moment Sunrise presenter Natalie Barr discovers her 1987 rejection letter from Channel 7 while walking out of her childhood home
She may be hosting Australia’s most popular breakfast show, but during the early days of her career Natalie Barr was struggling to get a foot in the door at Channel Seven.
The 54-year-old was clearing out her childhood home in Bunbury, Washington, when she discovered a rejection letter from Seven Perth’s office, dated June 1987.
The letter, which Natalie received at age 19, was kept by her mother, Julie, as a reminder of just how far her daughter had come in her broadcasting career.
Sunrise presenter Natalie Barr, 54 (pictured), revealed a secret from her past when she revealed a rejection letter from Channel 7 in the late 1980s.
Natalie applied for an entry-level job at the Perth newsroom, but was told there were no “suitable jobs” for her, but the HR manager reassured the young journalist that he would keep her details “on file” for future jobs.
“Keep experimenting with the kids, that’s the lesson here,” said Natalie, who is now one of Seven’s most popular presenters.
And she revealed that there is a large pile of similar rejection letters, but that did not stop her from insisting on succeeding in the industry.

The TV presenter has revealed one of her rejection letters which was found while sorting through her belongings at her childhood home in Bunbury, Western Australia.
“Basically, every television network, radio station, and newspaper in the entire state has turned me down,” she said.
Her expression of interest was one of the many letters she sent to news outlets, such as the ABC and the Sunday Times, when she was a budding reporter.
She came across the letter during a visit to her hometown, which coincided with a week-long series of clips promoting Western Australia.

The letter revealed that there were no “suitable positions” for her to fill, but she was told her details would be kept on file
During the search, Natalie and her mother also uncovered family photos and school reports.
Natalie became co-host of Sunrise in March 2021 after Samantha Armytage resigned from the position.
She was previously the longtime news anchor on the show.

Her expression of interest was one of many letters she sent to media outlets such as the ABC and the Sunday Times as a budding reporter in hopes of expanding her career.
