The drug dealer known as ‘Skint-Harry’ has been jailed for his leading role in the Encrochat drug plot in Merseyside.

George Powell, 40, of Hillside Road, Southport, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court to 12 years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs, cocaine and heroin.

Powell was arrested at Manchester Airport on 21 July last year, after he was identified as a user of Encrochat dealing with ‘skint-harry’.

He had divulged personal information within the messages, including details of relatives, addresses and vehicles associated with him.

Powell pleaded guilty to these crimes at an earlier hearing.

He admitted that he was responsible for conspiring to supply 9kg of cocaine and 5kg of heroin between March and June 2020.

Leading figures in drug plots

Detective Inspector Peter McCullough said: “Encrochat messages to Powell revealed his apparent involvement as a leading figure in drug plots that could have caused suffering to families and residents in our community.

His letters clearly identified him as a ‘skint-harry’ Encrochat handle user, who showed his involvement in the conspiracy to supply large quantities of cocaine and heroin, causing misery to the people of Merseyside and possibly beyond.
