Windy today and the breeze continued Saturday, tracking a storm into Sunday
Some light snow is possible on Sunday before rain…
Today: Mostly cloudy, windy. Hi 44. Wind: West 15-25 mph. Gusts of up to 40 mph.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, breezy. Hi 32. Wind: NW 10-20 mph.
Saturday: Partly sunny. Hi 42. Wind: NW 10-15 mph. Gusts of up to 25 mph.
Rainfall amounts averaged nearly half an inch yesterday across the region. It was another rainy day for Central City PA this winter. There were a couple of thunderstorms earlier in the evening across western PA, something we don’t see often in PA in January! It’s a pattern that’s been used recently! The wind moved through the night and will pick up all morning behind yesterday’s rain. Temperatures also start out mild, with overnight lows remaining around 40 degrees.
A northwest breeze returns today to dry us off as the weekend approaches. Indeed, the day will be windy at times. Then, Saturday should feature some sunshine and nice weather…the calm before the next storm. It won’t be long until the next round of humidity arrives in the Gulf to wrap up the weekend. It looks like there will be enough cold air in place to start Sunday for an initial period of light snow Sunday afternoon. Sunday morning lows will be in your 20s. While this could support a coating of -2 snow at first, the warm air will roll in fairly quickly and it will rain by Sunday evening for most locations. Snow lovers – This isn’t the storm for you, but it can at least bring some snow to what’s been a warm and wet winter so far. It will continue to rain through Monday before turning to a breeze again behind the storm early next week.
A look ahead shows another chance of rain and snow on Wednesday with temperatures remaining in the 40s, making it difficult for any major snow storms to take hold locally. The pattern is definitely active…the question is can it snow here or will these systems continue to produce mostly rain? Things certainly seem to be heading towards the latter. Stay tuned.
