Egg production remains low in Pennsylvania

(WHTM) – Don’t get your hopes up about low egg prices.

The USDA just released its monthly report on chicken and eggs. This survey of chicken and egg production covers the entire country and also has regional statistics reports.

One of their reports covers egg production in Pennsylvania, New York and Maryland. rom December 20212 to December 2002, egg production in Maryland was up 2 percent from a year ago, production in New York was up 1 percent, and production in Pennsylvania was down 17 percent.

Nationwide egg production is down six percent from last year.

The report provides no reason for retraction. But national reports cited rising feed costs, supply chain issues, and avian influenza as the main causes. Nationwide, bird flu has killed (or forced farmers to destroy) millions of chickens. Unfortunately, it takes time to raise a new generation of egg producers.
