The display and sale of orchids belong to Hershey Gardens

Hershey, Pennsylvania (WHTM) — The Susquehanna Orchid Society (SOS) will offer orchids on display and sale to Hershey Gardens next month.

The 39th annual event will be heldriday,ebruary 3rd through Sunday,ebruary 5th. You can attend the event from 9 am to 5 pm at the Milton and Kathryn Hershey Conservatory.

“For the Love of Orchids” displays nearly a thousand orchids in dozens of varieties. There will be tours and informational sessions given by experts.

The schedule of orchid show and sales events is as follows:

  • Friday,ebruary 3
    • 11 a.m. – Orchid lights in the Butterflyoyer
  • Saturday,ebruary 4th
    • 11 a.m. – Orchid lights in the Butterflyoyer
    • 1:30 p.m. — Choosing the right orchid to grow in your home
    • 2 p.m. – Orchid Show Tour
    • 2:30 p.m. – Orchid Division – Demonstration
    • 3:30 p.m. — Growing Phalaenopsis in your home
  • Sunday,ebruary 5th
    • 11 a.m. – Orchid lights in the Butterflyoyer
    • 11:30 a.m. – Orchid Division – Demonstration
    • 1:30 p.m. – Orchid Show Tour, with Spotlight on Vanda Orchid
    • 2 p.m. – Orchid Show Tour
    • 2:30 PM – Tips and tricks on growing orchids

There will be unique hybrids and rare species at the event, including Cattleyas, Dendrobriums, Vandas, Oncidiuonms, and Phragmipediums. Since the event is taking place at the “Sweetest Place on Earth,” it’s only fitting that there’s a variety of orchid, Sharry Baby, that smells exactly like chocolate.

SOS members will also be on hand to assist interested buyers in selecting orchid varieties that best suit the homeowner’s growing environment.

Performances will be judged on site and various prizes will be presented. Some of the previous SOS shows have received national recognition from the American Orchid Society.

Orchid Societies from Pennsylvania and Maryland will be participating in the show and sale this year.
