Patients have been warned that the urgent treatment center in St Helens will be operating on reduced hours due to the nurses’ strike.

The Royal College of Nursing is holding an industrial strike on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

St Helens and Knowsley were affected by strikes on this occasion.

Health chiefs confirmed on Tuesday night that due to the strike, the Urgent Treatment Center in Bickerstaff Street – more commonly known as ‘The Walk’ by the St Helens public – would see its hours reduced to between 10am and 6pm on Wednesday.

Information about opening hours will follow on Thursday.

A spokesperson for St Helens Hospitals and Knowsley NHS Teaching NHS Trust said: “Long waits are expected at both St Helens UTC and Whiston A&E Hospital on industrial strike dates.

“For non-urgent cases, people are asked to visit NHS 111 online for advice: www.111.nhs.uk and to use alternative services available.”
