Adversity season behind them, the Bills playoff run begins

ORCHARD PARK, New York (WIVB) — The 2022-2023 season ended in an act of racial hatred that shocked the country. On May 14, 10 of our neighbors were killed at the tops of Jefferson Street. Three others were injured. The Bills showed up to show support and the team’s motto for the season became what was etched on their jerseys that day: “Choose Love.”

No one can predict how much love the team and the community will earn in the face of adversity throughout the season.

One month after May 14, on June 14, the team’s co-owner, Kim Pegula, suffered from Unexpected health problem. After a short update later that month progressing well, We haven’t seen much from the team or the Pegula family about what it’s doing today or talking about it.

“Okay, let’s go ahead and get started… Some of you may already know the news about Dawson’s brother,” head coach Sean McDermott began an August press conference with the devastating news about Dawson’s brother Knox.

Luke, Dawson’s younger brother, passed away.

“He wanted me to give it my all,” Dawson later said. “I know he’ll be watching in a way.”

Mafia Bills came together To raise more than $200,000 for the Punt Pediatric Cancer Collaborative, a nonprofit organization close to Knox’s heart.

Knox has never missed a game. The team started their season against the former Super Bowl champions: they beat the LA Rams 31-10 and then went on to beat the Titans in Week 2. It was the third week until the first time the weather intercepted.

In Miami, the Bills lost after facing extremely high temperatures. The Dolphins remained on the sidelines, but the Bills did not.

“We came here to win the game (and we didn’t),” coach McDermott said afterwards. But I’m proud of the way the guys fought – the effort they put in, we used it on everyone we could on the sidelines out there.”

The weather was again in Week 10: a home game against Cleveland where unprecedented snow totals were predicted.

The team will move the game to Detroit And 80 inches of snow will continue to fall at Haymark Stadium.

“Credit to the Bills Mafia,” Josh Allen said after the game. “What they were going through…they were probably digging themselves in and driving 4.5 hours to get here so we really value our fan base and I can honestly say we wouldn’t have done it without them. It just took a lot of hands and moving parts.”

A cold-weather blast occurred for a brutally cold game against the Chicago Bears on Christmas Eve, and while that was happening, Buffalo was snowing, freezing cold temperatures, and windy. More than 40 people lost their lives in the 22nd Blizzard.

Just over a week later, Hamelin was devastated collapsed in the field In the game against the Bengals. It spurred the country to come together in support of #3. A week later, he left the intensive care unit and was transferred to Buffalo, before returning home.

Hamlin’s cardiac arrest was the worst injury on the field this season, but not the only one. In the home opener, an ambulance was brought onto the field for Dane Jackson who hit his head badly during an awkward collision with a teammate. Micah Hyde left the field in tears near the end of September with a severe neck injury, and Josh injured his elbow after the November game against the Jets. Von Miller’s anterior cruciate ligament tear ended the season for the team’s closer.

“I can do it myself but to have family, fans, teammates and so many people supporting you and lifting you up like I know for sure I will be able to go back to the same Vaughn I was if not better,” Miller said in mid-December.
