The 19-year-old was taken from the Regal Cinema with a gunshot wound

Hazel Township, Luzerne County (West/Wyo) – Pennsylvania State Police say a 19-year-old was shot in the lobby of a local movie theater.

State police and ambulances were dispatched to the Laurel Mall and Regal Cinemas shooting area at 8:15 p.m.

Officials say a 19-year-old man was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital Hazelton with a gunshot wound.

Investigators determined that the shooting was a “motivated attack” within the Regal Cinemas lobby and arcade area. While the shooting took place in a public place where people were in immediate danger, the soldiers say it was an isolated incident.

Soldiers say the gunman fired several shots and then fled the area. State police say they are still searching for the shooter.

“We’re trying to piece everything together,” Trooper Anthony Petrosky, Trooper Public Information Officer says. Trooper Petroski adds, “We are just as good as the audience we serve.”

The Pennsylvania State Police’s lead case team is handling the investigation.
