The Rocket Man singer is currently on his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” retirement tour, with the Glastonbury gig being the last ever show he’ll be performing in the UK.

John had hinted at fans on social media ahead of the announcement, on Wednesday (November 30) while taking to his Instagram Stories, he wrote a caption saying, “Rocket Man is coming.”

“We are so excited to finally bring Rocket Man to Worthyarm,” said Emily Ives, who organizes the Glastonburyestival with her father, Michael.

The first artist to be confirmed for the 2023 lineup, the superstar singer will play the Pyramids Theater on the final night of the festival, which this year is set to run from June 21-25.

John revealed that he will be headlining Glastonbury 2023 on Sunday 25th June in what will be his last performance in the UK.

Announcing the news on social media Glastonburyestival said: “We are very excited to announce that the one and only @employee The Pyramid Theater will headline Sunday night at Glastonbury 2023, for what will be the last UK show on its final ever tour.”

What is Elton John’s final farewell tour?

“Farewell Yellow Brick Road” is John’s final concert tour. The singer announced it in 2018 with the tour commencing the same year, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been pushed back into 2020 and 2021. The tour will now end in June 2023, with its final performance in the UK at Glastonbury Pyramid Stage on Sunday 25 June .

Talking to NME “It’s something I want to finish,” John said about his recent farewell tour, adding: “I’m looking forward to doing it and going as high as we’ve been – we were a speeding train hitting the buffers. Right now, I’m supposed to finish in 2023, In the summer, by which time I’ll be 76–and that’s it, baby. I can’t wait to do it and have a great time, and I can’t wait to finish it and say, “No more–I’ve had enough.”

When asked about the music industry in the future, John said, “I’m going to make records and I’m going to do my radio show, but as far as Schlipping and doing shows? I’ve had enough of the applause. I want to be with my family. I want to be with my kids.” He added, “I’ll still be creative, but I don’t want to spend the rest of my life flying here, flying there. I can’t do any more than I’ve done now and save up for the odd charitable thing that might come up, that’s all for me.”

John kicked off his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour in Allentown, Pennsylvania on September 8, 2018. Consisting of 300 concerts, he has already completed tour dates in North America, Australia and New Zealand. The tour is still ongoing and is expected to conclude in 2023, with its final show being played in the UK at Glastonburyestival.
