Pele thanked the football world for their messages of support after he was taken to hospital.

Concerns were raised when ESPN Brazil reported that the soccer icon was admitted to Israel’s Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo due to “general swelling”. The Brazilian icon was quick to play down concerns about his health and his daughter has since confirmed his admission was not an emergency.

The 82-year-old is considered one of the most talented soccer players of all time and is a legend of Brazilian soccer. Over the course of his illustrious career, the striker has scored an impressive 77 goals for his country in 92 matches. He won the World Cup three times with Brazil in 1958, 1962 and 1970, and is the only player to achieve this feat.

Pele had a polyp removed from his colon in September 2021 and has since been in and out of hospital for regular treatment. ollowing the news of Pele’s latest health concern, a building in Qatar was lit up with his picture with the words “Wishes a speedy recovery”.

Why was Pele taken to the hospital?

ESPN Brazil reported that Pele was taken to hospital after suffering from heart problems and stated that there were concerns his chemotherapy was not having the desired effect.

His daughter, Kelly Nascimento, stated at the time of his confession that it wasn’t a bad prediction. She said, “There is no emergency or a terrible new prognosis. He is in the hospital and receiving regulated medication.”

What did Pele say?

Pele shared a post on his Instagram page thanking football fans around the world for wishing him well and for sending him kind messages. The 82-year-old posted a picture of a building in Qatar lit up by his image.

Pele commented on the photo: “My friends in the hospital doing my monthly check-up. It is always good to receive positive messages like this. Thank you Qatar for this honor, and to everyone who sends me positive vibes.”

Who is Pele?

Pele is a former Brazilian soccer player who played as a striker for Santos, New York Cosmos and the Brazilian national team. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in football history.

The striker burst onto the scene at the age of 15 while playing in the Brazilian league for Santos and became a full Brazil international at the age of just 16 years and nine months. He scored on his debut in that match and remains Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer.

Pele made his World Cup debut in 1958 and played a crucial role in helping Brazil achieve their first World Cup victory. During the tournament, Pele became the youngest player to score in a World Cup with a goal against Wales. He was only 17 years and 239 days old at the time.

Later in the same tournament, he became the youngest player to score a hat-trick and the youngest player to score in a World Cup final.

The Brazil striker enjoyed a distinguished international career and went on to play a pivotal role for his country’s national team over the next 13 years. Pele won two more World Cups in 1962 and 1970 and became the all-time top scorer for his country with 77 goals in 92 matches.
