2023 Election: APC Christian Groups Endorse Peter Obi, Promise To Work

The All Progressives Conference (APC), the Northern Christian Congress party, has endorsed Labour’s presidential candidate, Peter Opie, as a candidate for the 2023 election.

newsonline This was reportedly stated in a statement issued by the group to reporters in Abuja on Thursday.

The Northern Christian group APC which is led by the former Union Government Secretary, Babsheer Lawal, said the group’s decision to endorse the former governor of Anambra State against its party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, was for fairness and justice.

Babchier said the group reached Obi’s endorsement after careful scrutiny of the Labor Party’s presidential candidate’s ability to deal with the issues facing the country.

The statement, titled “Why We Chose to Endorse the Obi-Datti Ticket,” reads as follows:

“As a leading critic of APC’s monofaith presidential ticket, and also in disagreement with those who patiently awaited our guidance on where to pitch our tent, after painstaking review and analysis of alternative presidential tickets, we now wish to recommend the Obi/Dati Presidential Ticket.

“We would like to briefly narrate a few of the many reasons why we have adopted this card and commend it to all Nigerians of good conscience who desire justice, fairness and harmonious coexistence for all Nigerians across tribes, religion and geopolitical regions. Menshevik with PDP Nothing could be further from the truthor me the PDP and APC are two different sides of the same coin.

“1 The same APC doctrine is a well thought out and calculated plan to sow the seeds of religious and social discord among Nigerians. It is evident that Northerners, in particular, are the intended targets and victims of this diabolical plan. It is an indisputable fact that the whole of Northern Nigeria is currently engulfed in numerous Intractable social and economic problems due to the activities of many shadowy criminal groups.

“Agriculture, the mainstay of the Northern economy, was all but abandoned as kidnappers and bandits kept people from the safety of their homes. Interstate and intercity travel for business and pleasure came to a halt, not only because of roads impassable to motor vehicles but more for fear of kidnapping and robbery.” Armed and other forms of banditry. Our rural schools are virtually closed for fear of kidnappers.Government-owned universities are closed thus depriving the children of the already impoverished northern masses of access to affordable higher education. Thus, our out-of-school and unemployed children have become easy targets for recruitment by bandits and kidnappers There is no solution in sight.

Then, out of nowhere, this man Bola Ahmed Tinubu, one of the famous Yoruba chiefs, a man who advocated the creation of a Ministry of Regional Integration in every state government in the geopolitical south-west that he heads as emperor, and a man who was once quoted as saying, “I don’t believe in ONE NIGERIA” (This Day, Sunday Newspaper, 13 April 1997, p9) He comes with an Islamic Muslim card who is well aware that religion is the foundation of Northern Nigeria.. The APC card with same faith is a ploy to sow discord among northerners by using the most powerful weapon of social discord – religion. As Karl Max once said – “Religion is the opiate of the people.” Nigerians of all walks of life should see the Tinubu/Kashim card of same faith as a suggestion from the pit of hell that can only be conjured by the most Machiavellian minds known to man and must therefore be rejected by All lovers of our country and its nascent democracy.

On the other hand, Alhaji Kashim Shetima, Vice President in Tinubu is the man who once said ‘restructure my feet, let us restructure our minds.’or eight years, he presided over Borno State at a time when Boko Haram was invading the country almost at will and restructuring The minds of its victims are against Christianity and Western education. The kidnapped Chibok and Dabchi girls and many more are now slowly flowing out of captivity in the Boko Haram camps to be fully indoctrinated into the Muslim faith and to bear children born in Islam in captivity – a true example of “mind restructuring” if there ever was one. Also this small matter of the allegation of a very close relationship or otherwise between the APC vice-presidential candidate and Boko Haram! killing 44 people and injuring 77 Christian worshipers?Or that the aforementioned Kabiru Sokoto was finally captured in his hideout in the Borno State Government hostel in Abuja?Aren’t Christians justified in their fear of a government run by the couple?

2. Certainly, the same faith APC card aims to shame Christians and give them and their religion a second class social and political status in their country. In particular, this is vindication of the discrimination and oppression of Christians in Northern Nigeria where they are now denied employment, promotion, contracts and admission to read prestigious and marketable courses in government-owned schools simply because of their religion. It is no wonder, then, that Alhaji Bola Tinubu believes that the Bible is a book of jokes in which he can freely compose his “jokes” such as his “Poisoned Holy Communion” and “Speaking in Tongues” jokes. Man enough, I challenge him to mock the Holy Quran even once as he freely does the Bible This man has no respect for Christians and Christianity at all.

“3 This APC ticket goes against the trend of Nigerian politics which in practice (if not in law) has always sought a religious balance in its politics and governance. It should be noted that the other 17 political parties that put forward candidates for the presidency have followed the path of established conventions and practices of By presenting cards of various faiths.Really, except for inciting social disharmony, there is absolutely no sense in the APCaith Card itself.

“4urthermore, in our quest for justice and fairness in the social, political and religious space of the country, it is clear that only the Obi/Datti card has the power to speak to the true clamor of the devolution of power to the Southeast and at the same time speak to the cry of marginalization by our people In the Southeast. It is clear that a Christian/Islamic Presidency like the Obi/Dati Presidency would be more appropriate at this point in our political journey because we are now transitioning from an Islamic/Christian Presidency. It would also achieve the regional transformation of the Presidency from the current NW/SW Presidency to the SE/NW Presidency where It is popularly voted upon. This is justice. This is fairness. This is political engineering at its best and it is the engineering of peace and the harmonious coexistence of the various social, political and religious classes of our nation.

“5 Nigerians must also resist the temptation to be ruled by the same set of courtiers who recycle themselves, their children and their friends in a monarchical way, in and out of government to the exclusion of other segments of society. This trend has led to these disastrous consequences in which we now find ourselves – poor, insecure, divided , deeply backward, massively unemployed and with a widening gulf between the rich and poor in society A keen observer will not fall short to note that APC is a conversion of the WG/UPN controlled by the sons or descendants of those who once ran and destroyed the WG while the PDP is aor a conversion of an NPC/NPN similarly dominated by the children or descendants of the people who once ran and destroyed the NPC.The government of either the APC or the PDP will be nothing but a recycling of the same class of people who have been running and destroying the country since independence until now.Is it any wonder That Nigeria has remained rigid?

“Obi/Datti will give us a breath of fresh air and the greatest chance of extricating our country from the quagmire into which it has been mired by a repeat group of self-centered reactionaries.

6 There is also this palpable fear and anxiety about the possible transfer of the current presidency from oneulbe to another – same tribe, same religion, same region, same entourage. This has led to an increase in the fear of the possibility of continuingulpi dominance in the country. Besides, there is a perception by many Nigerians that theulbe are the main actors in the banditry and kidnapping that is currently ravaging the country. Therefore, there is a widespread perception that another Volpe-led government would not have the inclination or the political will to address the security challenges in the country since the majority of the perpetrators are its own clan.

There is also this perception that appointments by the current government are motivated more by ethnic and religious nepotism than by national considerations. This has led to fears that this trend may be continued by another Volpe-led government. APC and PDP both offer us these terrible options. The Obi/Datti card has great potential to wean us from these problems.

7inally, as political campaigns progress toward election dates, the tendency to divide the country along regional, tribal, and religious affiliations is gradually beginning to manifest itself. We can see very clearly that the APC having failed miserably in its original plan of instigating a form of jihad which it sought through its own creed ticket in order to get Muslim votes, has now resorted to a tribal ticket. The battle cry now is the tribal paper “It’s our turn” in the Southwest. On the other hand, the DPP seeing new opportunities in the failed jihad strategy of the APC tends toward adapting both the religious and ethnic strategies of the APC in the North.

“Nigerians should be alert to these very dangerous trends of campaigning because any of the political parties that come into government through their forces of ethnic or religious sentiments may not be able to govern successfully and may exacerbate social divisions.

Therefore, people of good conscience should look to opportunities that unite us, not divide us. Only the Labor Party offers this opportunity. So we call on all patriots to work for our country in these presidential elections. The future of Nigeria is at stake in this presidential election. Obi-Datti is the only way to go. All other paths lead to destruction.
