NBA: These are the best scorers of all time

Who is the best scorer in NBA history?

The current all-time top scorer in NBA history is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The basketball player enjoyed an incredible career that spanned from 1969 until 1989, scoring 38,387 points during his 20-year reign.

Abdul-Jabbar has been the all-time leading scorer since April 5, 1984, when he broke the mark previously held by Wilt Chamberlain. He broke that record eight months before LeBron James was born.

The 7ft 2 center enjoyed a career that saw him play with the Milwaukee Bucks from 1969 until 1975 and the Los Angeles Lakers from 1975 until 1989. Abdul-Jabbar was named the NBA Champion on six occasions, and was also named MVP on six occasions.

He is considered by many experts as one of the greatest players of all time, with even the NBA’s own website saying, “No other player in episode history has achieved the same amount of individual and team success as Abdul-Jabbar.”

Abdul-Jabbar retired from the sport in 1989 at the age of 42, with an incredible legacy under his belt.

Could LeBron James become the best scorer in NBA history?

As it stands, LeBron James, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, is the NBA’s top scorer and second highest scorer of all time.

The 37-year-old debuted with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003 and since then has been a four-time NBA champion, has made the NBA All-Star Team on 18 occasions, and has also been voted as the NBA Most Valuable Player on four separate classes.

Along with Abdul-Jabbar, James is also widely considered one of the all-time greats of basketball, with a 31-point win in the season opener against the Golden State Warriors bringing him closer to Abdul-Jabbar’s record.

James is currently in his 20th season, the same number that Abdul-Jabbar played in his career, and the Los Angeles Lakers star scored a total of 37,093 points which means he is 1,295 points away from breaking Abdul-Jabbar’s record.
