Who is Doug Brignole? A famous bodybuilder passes away at the age of 62

Famous bodybuilder and fitness author Doug Brignol has passed away. The bodybuilding icon passed away on October 13 at the age of 62. The official cause of his death has not been revealed yet, although some unverified sources claimed that he died of a heart attack.

Brignol is best known for being part of the Amateur Athletic Association and the National Amateur Bodybuilding Association. Keep reading to learn more about the fitness expert’s life and career.

Brignol’s death was confirmed by bodybuilding promoter Joe Wheatley, who wrote, “It hurts so bad! Rest in peace. Doug Brignol – 62 years old.” This news comes at a time when the bodybuilder has been preparing and training to appear as a guest at the AAU Mr. Universe, which is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas on October 22.

Brignol’s friend and fitness athlete, Benny Rollins, also shared the news on social media, tweeting: “So sad to report the passing of my friend and mentor Doug Brignol today. Doug taught me how to train properly, and I’ve never developed anywhere near the physique that I would have done it otherwise. His body was amazing, but his mind was more than that. RIP Companion.”

The internet is overwhelmed with honors

As soon as the news came out, many of Doug’s friends and trainees began paying tribute to the bodybuilder. “Doug Brignoll passed away last night. Doug was such a wonderful teacher to me, he made me a better teacher and thinker. I never imagined he would be leaving so soon. It hurts. Rest in peace Doug. You were a great mind and a great man,” one intern wrote.

Bodybuilder Brian Gates tweeted, “Rest in peace this legend, Doug Brignol. Thank you for inspiring me and teaching me to think better about fitness and health. The impact you have had on me and others will not be forgotten.”

One follower also wrote: “Rest in peace, Legend Doug Brignole. I’ve been pain and injury free for two years after reading Doug’s book The Physics of Resistance Exercise. Doug is 62, former and current bodybuilder.”

Doug Brignol started his career at the age of 16

Brignole began competing in bodybuilding competitions when he was only 16 years old. Over the next four decades, he won a number of titles, including the AAU Mr. America in the mid-length division and AAU Mr. Universe in the light heavyweight division in 1982.

Most recently, he won the Muscle Beach International Award in 2014 and the AAU Mr. Universe is in the open section in 2019. Doug has also organized seminars in various cities in the United States and across other countries, including Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Norway, and Japan. He was also a public speaker and author.

Apart from writing several articles in magazines, Doug has co-authored a university sociology book titled Million dollar muscle. Another one he wrote, The physics of resistance exercise It became very popular and many orthopedic surgeons pushed him and his Ph.D. Masters.
