World Cup 2022: When does the Qatar Championship start?

The Qatar 2022 World Cup is fast approaching, with the biggest event in world football set to take place in winter for the first time ever.

A total of 64 matches will be played over a period of about a month to determine the next world champion, as the brightest talents and heaviest hitters in the professional game compete for a chance to win one of the sport’s most prestigious awards.

But when does the tournament really start? Here’s everything you need to know…

When does the World Cup start?

The World Cup will kick off on Sunday, November 20, 2022, with the tournament between hosts Qatar and Ecuador scheduled to take place at 4 pm GMT. The opening ceremony of the competition will begin at 3 pm.

England’s first game will take place the following day, on Monday 21 November. The Three Lions will start their campaign against Iran at 1:00 pm GMT. Wales’ opening match against the USA came on the same day, with the start whistle blowing at 7pm GMT.

When does the World Cup end?

This year’s World Cup will end on Sunday, December 18, 2022, with the final due to take place at 3pm GMT.
