A new animated movie based on the Super Mario Bros world is coming – and here you will be able to watch it
In the first trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Bros Movie, Jack Black and Chris Pratt face off as Bowser and Mario, respectively.
The evil Black’s Bowser attacks the Ice Kingdom in the clip, which was presented in a Nintendo Direct video presentation in conjunction with the Japanese gaming giant’s presence at New York Comic Con.
Before seizing the power of Mario’s star, the hallmark of the gaming franchise, the flaming beast and his army of Cuba Trobas face the snowball resistance of an army of awesome penguin warriors.
Meanwhile, Mario, voiced by Pratt, finds himself in the Mushroom Kingdom, a little confused, as if it was his first time there…
Here is everything you need to know about it.
Who is in the cast?
Oddly enough, Charles Martinet – who provided the iconic voices for Super Mario and a whole host of other characters in the series – won’t be starring, though he is said to be making a “surprise” cameo.
Mario will be played by Chris Pratt, Princess Peach by The Queen’s Gambit’s Anya Taylor-Joy, and Luigi by Charlie Day, known for his leading role in the long-running hit comedy It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The villain will be played in the piece, Bowser, Jack Black, and Toad by Keegan-Michael Key, Donkey Kong will have the voice of Seth Rogen, while Cranky Kong will be cast by Portland actorred Armisen.
“Each voice actor was chosen for their ability to capture the unique spirit of their character,” the producers say.
What does Mario’s voice sound like to Chris Pratt?
Fans have been speculating ever since Pratt announced what the actor would look like in the movie.
Will he try to emulate the famous voice of the original Mario voice actor Charles Martinet? Will he put on a cartoonish Italian accent, as in games?
So viewers were a little surprised when the big-screen version of the plump finally opened his mouth and looked…just like Chris Pratt.
No tone. no sound. It’s just Chris Pratt coming out of Mario’s mouth. It’s an inconsistency to say the least, and with Pratt as characters in all kinds of blockbuster movies in recent years or voicing him, it’s hard to separate his voice from his real face.
Since Jack Black’s Bowser looks a lot like the video game version of the character, as is Keegan-Michael Key’s Toad, it’s a slightly odd choice.
Having the Hollywood star on the first list might not have an exaggerated Italian accent gone down nicely either, but at least Pratt could have changed the way he communicated a little?
Who directs it?
The new animated film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelinek, who previously collaborated on the animated series Teen Titans Go! and Teen Titans Go! to the cinema.
It will be produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination, and Shigeru Miyamoto, the legendary Nintendo game designer who helped create some of the most iconic franchises and characters in video game history.
The film’s screenplay was written by Matthew Vogel, whose writing credits include The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part and the upcoming Illumination movie Minions: The Rise of Gru.
what is he talking about?
No details have been released about the new movie’s story yet, and speculation is rife as to what fans might release when it finally comes to movie theaters.
“Mario and Luigi are two of the most beloved heroes in all of popular culture, and we are honored to have the unique opportunity to work closely with Shigeru Miyamoto and the large-scale fictional team at Nintendo to bring these characters to life in an animated film,” said Chris Meledandri, founder and CEO of Illumination. Animated, unlike any movie Lighting has made so far.”
“We are collaborating with Chris and his experienced team to create not only a licensed movie for the character, but a new piece of entertainment that brings Super Mario Bros. to life on screen, and lets everyone enjoy whether they know about the game,” Miyamoto said.
When can I watch it?
Super Mario Bros. movie has been announced. It was released in September 2021 with an original release date of December 2022, but has since been pushed back to April 2023.
The Super Mario Bros. movie is set to be released. on April 7 023 in the US (and presumably the UK), followed by a Japanese release on April 28.
This seems a bit unfair to Japanese fans, given the Nintendo character’s origins in the country.
