Malala Yousafzai heads Pakistan’s Joyland as executive producer !

Malala Yousafzaiwho heads her own film and television production company, Extracurricular Productions, joins “JoylandPakistan‘s Presentation of an Oscar in the Worldilm category, as executive producer.

The film had its world premiere in Cannes earlier this year where it won the Queer Palm and Jury Prize at Un Certain Regard. After that it had its North American premiere in Toronto.

It is currently screened at both the BFI Londonilmestival, where it competes for the Sutherland Prize, which recognizes the debut of the most innovative and creative director, and the Busan Internationalilmestival, where it is at A Window on Asian Cinema strand.

The tale of the sexual revolution sees a patriarchal family longing for the birth of a child to continue the family streak, while their youngest son secretly joins a sexy dance scene and falls in love with an aspiring transgender starlet.

Yousafzai said, “I am very proud to support a film that proves that Pakistani artists are among the best in world cinema. Joyland invites us to open our eyes to the people closest to us – to see our family and friends as they are, not colored by our expectations or societal prejudices.”

Yousafzai is one of the pioneers tribute to diverseWomen’s Power for 2022 Provided by Lifetime. In 2021, Yousafzai hit a Multi-year programming charter with Apple TV+ through extracurricular.

Written and directed by Saim Sadiq and produced by Apurva Guru Charan, Sarmad Sultan Khosat and Lauren Mann, starring “Joyland” Ali Jongo, Rustiarooq, Alina Khan, Sarwat Gilani, Sohail Samir, Salman Pirzada and Sania Saeed.

The film is produced by ALL CAPS + Khoosatilms in association with Extracurular, Diversity Hire Ltd, One Two Twenty Entertainment, Blood Moon Creative,ilm Manufacturers Inc, Astrakan AB and Noruzilms.

Producers include Katherine M. Mosley, Oliver Ridge, April Sheh and Katharina Otto Bernstein, and executive producers are Yousafzai, Ramin Behrani, William Olson, Jane Gwen Blake, Tiffany Boyle, Elsa Ramo, Oleg Dobson, Kathryn Loman, Harry Sharana Prasad, Scania Buffola and Owais Ahmed.

The film is set to premiere in Pakistan on November 18. Condor has acquired the distribution rights torance and Studio Soho in the UK and Ireland. Film Constellation represents sales worldwide, with WME represented in North America.
