‘One of a Kind’: Zach Colack, a father of four who worked at the Daly Center, was killed in a Markham, Illinois car crash near the I-294 bridge !

Chicago (WLS) – The widow of a man killed in a crash in the southern suburbs said one of the photos captures his true self.

Catelyn Raditz Kulak said her husband, Zach Kolack, loved being a father. The couple had four children who lost their father in a horrific accident in Markham onriday night.

“He was always playing with them. He would take them everywhere. When he got home, they ran towards him and threw their arms around him,” Catlin said.

Catelyn and her mother stood by her for support as she remembers that she and Zack have known each other for more than half of their lives. They met when they were 15 years old at Tinley Park High School and dated throughout school.

After college, they got married and started a family. They had four children ranging in age from 1 to 7 years old. It was a romantic fairy tale with their lives going according to plan. Katelynn is a school teacher and Zach had just finished his apprenticeship, working as an engineer at the downtown Daley Center.

But, the fairy tale ended abruptly onriday night at about 8:30 p.m., when another car crossed into the lane Zack was driving and crashed into his car. Zack and the driver of the other car, Carlos Mendoza, 20, were both killed. It’s a fact that Zack’s widow is still being processed.

“It comes and it goes. My daughter was a fool yesterday, and I texted him, and I knew he wouldn’t get it,” said Catelyn.

She said they had big plans to celebrate her birthday this weekend. Police are investigating, but said it’s unclear why the other car crossed into the lane Zack was driving. A passenger in that car was seriously injured as well.

“There were a lot of things that were meant to happen that are not going to happen now,” Catlin said.

Zach was about to work at the Daly Center. He worked at night, and he said it was doing well for his family life. His family is now making funeral arrangements.
