Upbeat singles marks Twain’s first release since 2017 and first with Republic Nashville
Shania Twain wants To embrace the thrill of falling in love with her new song “Waking Up Dreaming”, which was released on Friday. It’s the country pop icon’s first new music since 2017 and the first under a recording agreement with the Nashville Republic.
“Did you know I adore you? / A million ways to show you, I do,” Twain sings at the top of “Waking Up Dreaming,” propelled by Mickey-style hydraulic drum beats and a delicate wash of tuning. It gradually evolves to the fullest of the sound Shania, a dance party of gleaming guitars and unrestrained bliss. “Let’s start waking up from a dream / Dressing up crazy like stars,” she sings, as if she wasn’t perfect at least by a dozen stars.
The video, directed by Isaac Rentz, touches on this idea. With its throwback aesthetic, the clip features Twain and some friends in a bright, neon New Wave scene of metallic hair wigs and wild costumes ending with a killer rock ‘n’ roll show.
“Waking Up Dreaming” is Twain’s first solo release in five years, when she released the number one album Currently. Meanwhile, she’s starting her new Las Vegas residency at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, which had a last date of September. In July, a Netflix documentary Shania Twain: Not just a girl It was released along with an album featuring her best work.
