Another 80,000 live in long-term housing, which could cost an additional £550m a year.

Statistics this summer revealed that asylum costs totaled £2 billion for the first time.

“The amount of money being spent is worrying,” Tom Hunt, a Conservative MP, said last night.

The number of migrants crossing the Channel to Britain has reached 30,515 this year, after another 667 migrants arrived here on Wednesday.

Alp Mehmet, head of the organization Migration Watch UK that produced the report, called on the new Home Secretary Soyla Braverman to act.

He said: “With the number of illegal boat arrivals on the rise during the summer, it is likely that the number of people being accommodated in hotels has also gone up.

It is now costing already hard-pressed taxpayers a fortune.

“The Home Secretary must now show the resolve needed to deal with the costly chaos.”

The Open Border Brigade pretends that asylum seekers are not a real burden.

But now we know what that burden is: £2 billion a year, of which £1.3 billion is hotel bills.

And that number will only rise, with more than 30,000 illegal immigrants arriving on our shores this year so far.

Our new government vows to finally end this scandal. How exactly?

Liz Truss failed to even mention this to President Macron in New York. why?
