Snabba Cash is a Netflix Swedish crime drama series written by Jens Lapidus and Oskar Söderlund and directed by Jesper Ganslandt. It is inspired by Jens Lapidus’ Stockholm Noir literary trilogy, previously adapted into the film trilogy Easy Money starring Joel Kinnaman. In-universe, the show is set ten years after the movies and revolves around Syrian Kurds instead of Siberian immigrants as in the books and movies.
In the Netflix series, Leya (Evin Ahmed) is an entrepreneur and single mother who develops an app called TargetCoach. Leah’s late husband was a drug dealer. He wants to leave this life behind and establish himself in the technology sector. But he soon learns how closely the two worlds are intertwined. 7. Gasmamman (2015-)
Like ‘Snabba Cash’, ‘Gåsmamman’ is a Swedish crime drama series about a woman who finds herself trapped in the underworld. Sonja lives in Stockholm and lives a carefree life. He works as an accountant in the family business. When her family finds herself in a dangerous situation, Sonja is forced to become involved in the criminal world. The series is inspired by the Dutch drama series “Penoza”, which was also adapted as “Red Widow” in America.
6. Good Girls (2018-2021)
Created by Jenna Bans, “Good Girls” revolves around three Michigan mothers, Elizabeth “Beth” Boland, Ruby Hill and Annie Marks. Faced with financial difficulties, they decide to rob a supermarket. Unbeknownst to them, the supermarket in question is being used by a criminal gang to launder their money. At first worried about the money they can take from a regular supermarket, the gang members discover the truth when they call. Now, like Leia in Snabba Cash, the three women must work to pay back the debt the criminals stole from them.
5. Power (2014-2020)
James St., known as “Ghost” in the movie “Power”. Patrick (Omari Hardwick) is a ruthless drug lord. During his career, he built a sprawling drug empire that extended beyond New York City. Like Leia, James wants to leave the underworld behind and develop his legal business. In his case, it’s a nightclub. Unfortunately, James’ past is not over with him. He returns time and time again, both as friend and foe, to seek revenge or share in his success. ‘Power’ has spawned three spinoffs since its closure – ‘Power Book II: Ghost’, ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ and ‘Power Book IV: Force’. If the first and third are sequels, the second is a prequel. More spinoffs are reportedly in the works.
4. Super Pumped (2022-)
Super Pumped is an anthology series focused on telling stories from the world of technology. In its first season, it charts the career of former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). Although the plot is based on real-life events, it draws heavily from Mike Isaac’s 2019 non-fiction book. The second season will reportedly be based on Kalanick’s yet-to-be-released book on Facebook. Like ‘Snabba Cash’ and several other entries on the list, ‘Super Pumped’ shines an unusual light on the tech world.
3. We Crashed (2022)
Starring Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway as Adam Neumann and Rebekah Neumann, respectively, “WeCrashed” follows the rise and fall of WeWork, a real-life startup that provides both virtual and physical co-working spaces. The plot also focuses on the relationship between Adam and Rebekah. Like ‘Snabba Cash’, ‘WeCrashed’ strives to present an honest portrayal of the tech industry. It mixes real events and fiction to tell a compelling story. Leto and Hathaway are exceptional in the project, which would have been a more compact story if it had been a movie rather than a miniseries.
2. Peaky Blinders (2013-2022)
Created by Steven Knight, Peaky Blinders presents a largely fictionalized account of the titular real-life street gang in Birmingham, England. The story is set between the two World Wars and revolves around the Shelby family, whose members lead the Peaky Blinders. Thomas “Tommy Shelby” from “Peaky Blinders” shares many characteristics with Leia. Like him, she is driven by boundless ambition and wants to establish herself and her family in the mainstream of life.
1. The Dropout (2022)
Based on the Rebecca Jarvis-hosted podcast of the same name, The Dropout follows the real-life story of disgraced entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes (Amanda Seyfried) and the biotech company she founded, Theranos. The miniseries follows Holmes’ rise to acclaim as one of the preeminent tech entrepreneurs of his generation, his complicated romantic relationship with Theranos COO Sunny Balwani (Naveen Andrews), and his eventual collapse amid massive wire fraud allegations. Like Leia in ‘Snabba Cash’, Holmes’ career, as depicted in ‘The Dropout’, becomes entangled with crime, which inevitably affects much of the story.
