On September 21, 2022, Netflix released Monster, a six-part series that explores the harrowing story of America’s most famous serial killer. Jeffrey, also known as the “Milwaukee Monster”, managed to kill and dismember 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. With Jeffrey’s death in 1994, his family had to find a way to escape from everyone’s eyes.
Although you might realize that Jeffrey’s parents supported him throughout his arrest, sentencing, and death, the serial killer also had a younger brother, who changed his identity to spend the rest of his life in peace. Here are all the details about his younger brother, David Dahmer and his whereabouts.
A little bit about David Dahmer…
David Dahmer is the lesser known younger brother of Jeffrey Dahmer, who has been sentenced to 16 life imprisonment for his heinous crimes. David was born on December 18, 1966 in Doylestown, Ohio and named her Jeffrey David. David’s happy childhood negatively affects Jeffrey, who eventually begins to resent his brother.
David’s name first appeared on the June 2004 episode of “Larry King Live” where Jeffrey’s father and stepmother were interviewed 10 years after his death in prison. Jeffrey’s father, Lionel, spoke about his youngest son, David, noting that he had changed his name and asked for his privacy to be respected.
However, his stepmother, Shari Dahmer, provided some light on the two brothers. She stated that David made his career and that he is happy with his family, and at that time also, he was expecting a second child. Turns out Jeffrey was seven years older than David but at first they had fun with their siblings.
However, their personalities were very different. On the one hand, David was extroverted and popular, and Jeffrey was a shy and introspective kid. Well, his parents gave more importance to David while they looked at Jeffrey with disdain.
Where is David now?
Later known as the “Milwaukee Cannibal” or “Milwaukee Monster,” Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer was convicted of “fifteen of the sixteen murders” in Wisconsin and initially sentenced to fifteen life sentences in 1992. While many wanted Death for him, his sentence was extended to sixteen life sentences. FYI, Wisconsin abolished the death penalty in 1853.
Jeffrey may have evaded the death penalty, but he could only serve three years in prison as he was murdered by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver on November 28, 1994. Rita Espel, the sister of Jeffrey’s latest victim, revealed in an interview that she expected her to be killed on the way back. She claimed to have received phone calls from men claiming to be prisoners who promised her that they would be taken care of.
After his death, David escaped from public life. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati shortly after Jeffrey was murdered in prison and obtained a new identity. When David was asked to give interviews, he did not come forward and completely distanced himself from the Dahmer family. Nobody knows where he is at the moment.
Netflix premiered a scripted drama series “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” on September 21, 2022, starring Evans Peters as Dahmer. The series explores Jeffrey’s case from the point of view of the victims who managed to survive his heinous acts. Did you see him?
